Pamela and Joe Bryant were spotted sitting besides their remaining children: Shaya and Sharia Bryant (Kobe's Sisters) at Kobe & Gianna's memorial service Monday.
Joe Bryant, a retired NBA player, and his wife Pamela, were spotted sitting beside Kobe’s two sisters, Shaya and Sharia Bryant, while Kobe's widow Vanessa Bryant courageously took the podium to give an emotional eulogy for Kobe and Gianna.
Kobe's saddened parents and sisters were spotted in the same row as Vanessa Bryant and Kobe and Vanessa's three daughters — Natalia who is 17, Bianka who's 3, and just 7-month-old Capri.
The memorial was a great service with heart-breaking Eulogies from his closest friends, team mates, and even mentees. But here at Black Youth we were wondering where was the Eulogy from the parents that gave Kobe life? What was young Kobe Like?
Kobe, Pamela and Joe were known publicly to have been through a difficult relationship. Through the years, The Lakers star spoke publicly about the issues he was having with his parents.
The Los Angeles Times reported that the fallout Kobe Bryant had with his parents, dates back to the beginning stages of his relationship with his eventual wife Vanessa.
Both of Kobe's parents decided not to attend the couple’s wedding ceremony in April 2001. Bryant the Times in 2003 that Joe was not ok with him and his wifes pairing.
However Kobe and Joe were known to have reconciled their differences in 2005. In 2013 however, things again became turbulent when his parents attempted to sell off a large collection of Kobe Bryan memorabilia from his career. This auction they did included a pair of Lakers championship rings he won from 2000, which he gifted them.
“We regret our actions and statements related to the Kobe Bryant auction memorabilia,” Joe and Pamela said in a joint statement at they gave after the backlash by their son and fans. “We apologize for any misunderstanding and unintended pain we have caused our son and appreciate the financial support he has provided over the years.”
Although most of us know the story of Kobe and his Parents, we're all still asking why were they not a part of such a grieving time? On IG, fans went all out about their feelings on this when Snoop Dogg posted this photo of Kobe Bryant’s parents on his IG Feed:
